who we are

GOD DESIRES THAT YOU WOULD HAVE THE MOST EXCITING, PURPOSE-FILLED LIFE IMAGINABLE. HE LONGS FOR A RELATIONSHIP WITH YOU.
our mission

to lead people towards Jesus

why the name grumlaw?

Grumlaw Church first began meeting in Grand Blanc, MI in January 2018. We’ve always wanted to be known as a church deeply rooted in our community- Before Grand Blanc was ever named Grand Blanc, it was called “Grumlaw.” The name felt like it had deep meaning for our community & it stuck!

Now, as one church in three locations- Online, Grand Blanc and Hartland, Grumlaw means much more to us! Wearing “Grumlaw” on a T-shirt always sparks conversation in the community & we’re confident there will NEVER be another “Grumlaw Church.” No confusion there!

the grumlaw seven

This is our strategy. These help us measure how we’re doing and they keep us on track towards our mission.
with Christ at the center, we are driven by generosity, truth, excellence, and creativity.
our values are the convictions that guide our actions and reveal the strengths of grumlaw. they guide how we achieve our mission to lead people towards Jesus.
assume the best

Rather than being quick to jump to the negative or pointing out faults in others, we will assume the best in people. We will cling to the positive rather than the negative. When we do this, we model what Christ did for every one of us.

Ephesians 4:2, 1 Corinthians 13:7

celebrate creativity

We have an exceedingly creative God who created us to be in community. When we celebrate the creativity of others, we are willing to push forward the ideas that are best for the greater whole rather than what we see as the best for ourselves.

Romans 12:4-8, 2 Corinthians 5:17

make it better

We will always strive to leave it better than we found it- in all areas of life, but particularly with people. It’s so easy to be apathetic and take on the attitude of, “it’s not my problem.” But when we are constantly driven to “make it better” it’s best for you and “the you” beside you.

Matthew 5: 14-16, Matthew 25:34-40

always be teachable

In virtually every situation, there is something to be learned if we take a posture of humility. Teachability goes beyond a desire to learn, but a willingness to change. In all situations we will push ourselves to ask, “what can I learn from this?”

1 Peter 5:5, Proverbs 13:18

give it up

We never look more like Jesus than when we are being generous- with our time, talents, and treasure. In a world that screams, “keep everything for yourself,” Jesus teaches the complete opposite- “give it up!” We will strive to be a community that is known, first and foremost, by our generosity.

Luke 6:38, John 3:16

Our values reveal our heart and the unique convictions God has laid upon this faith community.

The Bible isn’t a version of truth, it is THE truth- the unchanging, inerrant word of God. At Grumlaw, we don’t uphold portions of Scripture, we believe and embrace all of Scripture- even the stuff that doesn’t sit well with us. We don’t approach Scripture with our ideas and preconceived notions, we allow Scripture to shape our thoughts and convictions.

The Holy Spirit is real and lives within the follower of Jesus, prayer is effective and speaks to God’s heart. We will spend our limited time on this earth with an eager and certain expectation- trusting in the God who goes before us, with us, and after us.
The local church isn’t just for “some people,” it’s for everyONE. Jesus is on an endless pursuit after the one- He even tells us there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents than over 99 righteous people who haven’t strayed away. His Church should follow His lead. At Grumlaw, you can belong before you believe- come explore, learn more about your risen Savior, and take your next step towards Jesus.
We never look more like Jesus than when we are being generous- with our time, talents, and treasure. In a world that screams, “keep everything for yourself,” Jesus teaches the complete opposite- “give it up!” We will strive to be a community that is known, first and foremost, by our generosity.
Pursuing Jesus isn’t a drag or an “I have to”- it’s the greatest joy we can experience in this life and an “I get to!” Around here, “the joy of the Lord is our strength.” Anyone should walk through the doors of grumlaw and think “I want whatever they have.”
Rather than being quick to jump to the negative or pointing out faults in others, we will assume the best in people. We will cling to the positive rather than the negative. When we do this, we model what Christ did for every one of us.

The “next step” for each follower of Jesus will likely be different. We will be careful not to elevate one step of obedience over the other; instead, we will celebrate when any step is taken. How do we measure success? How do we determine if we’re making an impact for Christ? By looking around and observing sheep taking their next step toward their shepherd.

what we believe
We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity and the son of God- He became flesh to reveal God to humanity and to save us.
We believe that all people were created in the image of God and were designed to have relationship with Him. However, all people have sinned, and in turn, ruined that relationship with Him. Through our own efforts, we are incapable of mending that relationship.
We believe that the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God without error because the writers were moved by the Spirit of God to write those words. It is the only book that has the power to transform lives.
We believe that the sacrifice of Jesus Christ provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin. God freely offers salvation to those who place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as payment for their sin.
We believe baptism is an outward expression of an inward commitment- it is a declaration to the world that we have received salvation through Jesus and symbolizes His death, burial, and resurrection.
We believe all Jesus followers should live a life for Jesus, not themselves. This occurs through obedience to the Word of God and daily submission to the Holy Spirit.
We believe the Church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus is the head. The members of the Church are those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ. The purpose of the Church is to glorify God and make Him known throughout the world.
